Tattoo Aftercare

It is very important you follow the instructions given. After 2 -3 hours from having your tattoo, carefully remove the dressing and gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild liquid soap, like a baby wash. Apply a good amount of tattoo aftercare cream, advised are Bepanthen or a tattoo aftercare cream sold at our tattoo studio. You can now either re-cover your tattoo with cling-film, but we would only recommend this if you are going to work where the tattoo will not be safe in the environment. For example, Care work, Building Work or Nursing etc. If not, leave it open to air and repeat the cleaning process 3 - 5 times a day. If your clothing is likely to rub against the tattoo then keep it covered with cling-film and medical tape. Keep the tattoo clean and avoid soaking for long periods of time. Showers advised, not baths. Avoid exposing the tattoo to sunlight. Unhealed or healed tattoos can fade in the sun, so when completely healed make sure the tattoo is covered in a high SPF. Whilst healing, avoid swimming and hot tubs etc. Avoid any skin treatments, fake tan, sunbeds etc. Healing times depends on how well you heal as a person, how big or small the tattoo is and how well you follow aftercare instructions. Whilst your tattoo is healing you may notice flakey bits on ink coloured skin coming away from the tattoo as you clean it. This is normal. At no point should you stop aftercare instructions until your tattoo is completely healed. Without following these instructions you may risk losing some colour or in same cases the tattoo may get infected from bad hygiene. This is very rare. During the healing process it may be very itchy. Do not itch or scratch, slap the tattoo lightly instead. This should only last a few weeks or so. If after a few days your tattoo is swollen, red or hot to touch please speak to your tattooist or seek medical advice. Infected tattoos are rare but can happen. If you lose any ink please get in touch with us. Providing aftercare has been followed (and we can tell) we will be happy to book you in for a touch up to make sure you are 100 percent happy with your tattoo.
